What do you think will be a big cake trend for 2021 and 2022 weddings?
2021 is going to be a “postponed” leap year (following all postponements in 2020 due to COVID-19) so I think the trend for big cakes will be edgy and four dimensional – cakes that will appeal to more than the sense of sight and taste. Big cakes in 2021 will transcend the norm as brides and grooms are getting bolder with their choices. Ruffles, rustic, metallic touches, geode, sharp edges, hollow, etc, will still be in play, however I predict staged cakes will trump them all.
For more luxurious/high end weddings – the hanging, suspended or chandelier cake will be one of those featuring as edible centre pieces in 2021/2021 weddings. Also instead of having stacked cakes and a vertical show piece – a more horizontal, wide display of cakes will emerge. This could be a combination of cakes, cupcakes and treats, all coming together to create a magical wow factor like never seen before. The use of props alongside wedding cakes will be making a debut at many weddings.
As couples are becoming more expressive with their weddings, thanks to popular TV programmes, so will the cakes.
Whatever you do, make it about you. Enjoy the process and have a fabulous time at your wedding.
